The term “dad bod” has been around for some time. Leonardo DiCaprio is famous for the “dad bod” that he has had between film roles. DiCaprio, however, always seems to get back in shape when it’s time to film his next movie. For many men, the dreaded “dad bod” isn’t a choice. They’re fit and eat well, yet they still have belly fat. For other men, major weight loss has left them with loose, sagging skin around their abdomen. But there is a way to get rid of “dad bod” for good: abdominoplasty surgery.
What is abdominoplasty?
Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure performed to remove excess fat, skin, and tissue from the mid-section. Many women undergo this procedure after giving birth to tighten up their mid-section. Now, many men are having tummy tucks done to improve the appearance of their abdomens. There are three types of male tummy tucks: mini tummy tuck, standard tummy tuck, and extended tummy tuck.
Mini tummy tuck: This type of abdominoplasty is performed to remove the small pouch of skin that falls below the navel. Mini tummy tucks require an incision that will usually run the width of the pubic bone. The incisions, however, are made so low that any scarring can be covered with clothing.
Standard tummy tuck: With this type of tuck, the incision runs from hip bone to hip bone above the pubic hair line. Excess skin and fat are excised and the underlying muscles are tightened. Although the incision in this procedure is long, any scarring can be concealed with clothing.
Extended tummy tuck: This abdominoplasty procedure is incredibly effective in getting rid of the dreaded “dad bod” because excess skin is removed from the hips and flanks and not just from the abdomen. Liposuction usually accompanies an extended abdominoplasty, and the muscles are tightened. The incision extends around the hips, but the scarring can be hidden with clothing.
What are the benefits of getting rid of your “dad bod” through abdominoplasty?
After undergoing abdominoplasty you will regain your confidence and feel more comfortable going places where you have to be shirtless (beach, pool etc.). It can also help with intimacy as you’ll feel more comfortable with your partner. Plus, you’ll have a more youthful-looking mid-section and overall physique. A male tummy tuck can also get rid of excess skin left over from a major weight loss.
