How Does a Thread Lift Work?
The old fashioned thread lift worked by using threads with barbs (which are now off the market). These threads were inserted into the target areas under local anesthesia and attached to the facial skin, gently pulling the skin tighter and upward.

How is the InstaLift Toronto Thread Lift Different?
The answer lies in advanced micro suspension technology.
Silhouette InstaLift is better and safer than the old style of thread lifts because bidirectional micro cones and absorbable (ie non-permanent) materials are used. It uses patented micro-suspension technology (MST) to defy gravity, based on a biocompatible and biodegradable polymer that is commonly used in therapeutic medicine. MST is based on absorbable sutures and bidirectional micro cones that suspend tissues with a reduced risk of migration and extrusion. The threads come in three sizes to accommodate minor to dramatic sagging.

The InstaLift Procedure
InstaLift is a non-surgical procedure that takes about 45 minutes to undergo at our doctor's office. After a thorough discussion about your goals, markings are made to plan your lift in order to achieve your desired results. A small amount of local anesthesia is administered to make you comfortable, and then a needle is used to place the threads and suspension cones underneath your skin. The tissues are then lifted into the ideal rejuvenated position. And you're done! You will notice a lift instantly and increased collagen production over the next few weeks and months.
Side Effects and Risks
Immediately after the thread lift procedure you may have minor discomfort in the location of the treatment area, for which you can take over-the-counter medications. There may be some redness and inflammation, which is actually beneficial as it means collagen is being restored. There may be minimal swelling or bruising for 2-3 days, for which Arnica (available at Cosmedical) can help speed up the recovery. Post treatment recommendations include avoiding vigorous physical activity, facial massages, making strong facial movements and dental surgery. You should also protect the treated area from UV exposure, whether from direct sunlight or tanning beds.
Risks and adverse events include temporary nerve inflammation, infection, bleeding at the needle entry sites, and dimpling. Existing bleeding disorders may increase risks.
Should I Get a Facelift or InstaLift for my sagging skin?
The traditional facelift involves removing and repositioning some of the fat, skin and underlying tissues in the face, as well as tightening some of the underlying muscles. This facial surgery allows for more extensive correction and is suitable for patients with the following:
dramatic sagging, particularly along the jawline and under the chin
deep creases around the nose and mouth, including marionette lines and deeper nasolabial folds
volume loss in the cheeks and sagging cheeks
sagging of skin and muscles in the neck (a facelift can be easily combined with a neck lift)
