Before and After
Individual results may vary
How Does a Thread Lift Work?
The old fashioned thread lift worked by using threads with barbs (which are now off the market). These threads were inserted into the target areas under local anesthesia and attached to the facial skin, gently pulling the skin tighter and upward.
We have done many thread lifts over the years and have found it to be a great way to give a more youthful appearance in the right patients, without removing any tissues or applying extensive surgery techniques. For the right patient, a thread lift may be an option to consider instead of a facelift. However, the old fashioned thread lift did have some issues — which is why we now offer the Silhouette InstaLift in Toronto!
How is the InstaLift Toronto Thread Lift Different? The answer lies in advanced micro suspension technology
Silhouette InstaLift is better and safer than the old style of thread lifts because bidirectional micro cones and absorbable (ie non-permanent) materials are used. It uses patented micro-suspension technology (MST), based on a biocompatible and biodegradable polymer that is commonly used in therapeutic medicine. MST is based on absorbable sutures and bidirectional micro cones that suspend tissues with a reduced risk of migration and extrusion. The threads come in three sizes to accommodate minor to dramatic sagging.
Boosts Natural Collagen Production
The unique structure of InstaLift threads grip tissue to achieve a gentle lifting of the cheeks and jawline instantly. At the same time, long-term collagen production is boosted when fibroblasts are stimulated to initiate collagen production because of the glycolide / L-lactide (PLGA) that is in the sutures and cones. InstaLift differs from PDO thread lifts because the latter is constructed from Polydioxanone. These reasons are why InstaLift is different from other thread lifts on the market.
The InstaLift Procedure
InstaLift is a non-surgical procedure that takes about 45 minutes to undergo at our doctor’s office. After a thorough discussion about your goals, markings are made to plan your lift in order to achieve your desired results. A small amount of local anesthesia is administered to make you comfortable, and then a needle is used to place the threads and suspension cones underneath your skin. The tissues are then lifted into the ideal rejuvenated position. And you’re done! You will notice a lift instantly and increased collagen production over the next few weeks and months.
Side Effects and Risks
Immediately after the procedure you may have minor discomfort in the treatment area, for which you can take over-the-counter medications. There may be some inflammation, which is actually beneficial as it means collagen is being restored. There may be minimal swelling or bruising for 2-3 days, for which Arnica (available at Cosmedical) can help speed up the recovery. Post treatment recommendations include avoiding vigorous physical activity, facial massages, making strong facial movements and dental surgery. You should also protect the treated area from UV exposure, whether from direct sunlight or tanning beds.
Risks and adverse events include temporary nerve inflammation, infection, bleeding at the needle entry sites, and dimpling. Existing bleeding disorders may increase risks.
Should I Get a Facelift or InstaLift for my sagging skin?
The traditional facelift involves removing and repositioning some of the fat, skin and underlying tissues in the face, as well as tightening some of the underlying muscles. This facial surgery allows for more extensive correction and is suitable for patients with the following:
- dramatic sagging, particularly along the jawline and under the chin
- deep creases around the nose and mouth, including marionette lines and deeper nasolabial folds
- volume loss in the cheeks and sagging cheeks
- sagging of skin and muscles in the neck (a facelift can be easily combined with a neck lift)
Although recovering from a full facelift cosmetic surgery can take multiple weeks, the skin firming elements results tend to be worth the wait. Results are permanent but are impacted by subsequent aging.
For patients with moderate age-related facial sagging and skin laxity, Silhouette InstaLift thread lift may be a less invasive option to rejuvenate mid facial skin, instantly lift aging lower facial contours to a more elevated position and give you good skin tone. A thread lift may be a more suitable option to rejuvenate mid face tissue if you have:
- mild to moderate sagging in the mid and lower face
- more shallow creases around the nose and mouth
Because the cosmetic injections procedure doesn’t require surgery and involves only local anesthesia, recovery from a thread lift is much faster than a facelift so you can see immediate and lasting results. The less invasive nature of InstaLift makes it a popular facial rejuvenation treatment for a more youthful appearance, even though results aren’t permanent.
