What are Filler Treatments?

Soft-tissue fillers are a variety of injectable solutions that help to fill in aging lines and plump-up the skin to restore a smoother appearance. When injected, these specialized fillers work to instantly turn back the hands of time through the appearance of your skin. Fillers can be used alone or in conjunction with a resurfacing procedure, such as a laser treatment, or a recontouring procedure like a facelift, or with Botox which will simultaneously relax the muscles.

Dermal fillers that yield temporary results often utilize hyaluronic acid, a natural occurring substance found in the body that is responsible for skin hydration and youthfulness. It works to temporarily restore volume to the skin in a natural-looking way.

Other fillers may include collagen production-promoting fillers. Once injected, this type of filler works to penetrate into the damaged layer of tissue. It then works to promote the body to produce collagen and other restorative properties. This is an effective treatment that can smooth away aging signs while promoting your skin’s natural healing functions.

What Types of Fillers are There?

Here at Cosmedical Rejuvenation Clinic, we offer a variety of effective temporary and semi-permanent fillers for smoothing away common age signs.

10 Reasons Why You Should Get Fillers

If you’ve gotten injectable fillers in the past, you already know the many benefits. If you’re looking to try them for the first time, look forward to these benefits!

  1. Ultra-Low Risk Profile
Injectable fillers all use either inert materials that the body ignores, or materials that occur naturally in the body (like hyaluronic acid). This means there is no chance of the body rejecting the filler or suffering an allergic reaction. There are no risks of toxicity or cell damage.
  2. Short Recovery Period
With no incisions, injectable fillers barely stress the body. The recovery time is typically a few days, rather than weeks and months as is common with surgery. This makes it easy to fit into your life!
  3. Immediate Results
Injectable fillers generally show results immediately after treatment, though some swelling may hide your optimal results.
  4. Unique Enhancements
Injectable fillers can provide enhancements unavailable with any other treatment. Fillers can be used not only to add youth and reduce wrinkles, but also to fill in acne scars and improve facial contours.
  5. Low Cost
Injectable fillers cost only a fraction of surgery.
  6. Fast Process
Because injectables are non-surgical, there are fewer hoops to jump through to get it. You will not need to go in for a surgical consultation or an allergy test.
  7. Easily Reversible
The most popular filler material, hyaluronic acid, can be easily reversed through an enzyme injection. This makes it a great choice if you are new to cosmetic enhancements and unsure about how they will affect your looks and self-image.
  8. No “All-Or-Nothing” Treatments
Injectable fillers allow you to start small and add more. This is especially common with lip plumping injections. You can start by adding a small amount of volume, and can slowly build up more volume depending on your goals.
  9. Does Not Require a Hospital Stay
Injectables do not require general anesthetic or time in the hospital. You can be in and out of our office in under an hour.
  10. Builds Collagen With Repeated Treatments Over Time
Long range studies have shown repeated treatments over a longer period of time can actually remodel your skin structure, making it produce more collagen on its own. That means healthier, stronger skin!

Tips to Reduce Bruising after Dermal Fillers

It is unusual to have significant bruising in the affected regions following a procedure, however many patients still ask for advice on managing and minimizing this side effect so they can quickly return to their everyday lives. Here are some tips that may help facilitate a faster recovery.

Before Your Filler Treatment

Before undergoing your treatment, it is important to let us know if you experience frequent cold sores. They may need to be treated before you can have a dermal filler injected into the area. In fact, you should let us know of any active infection in the target area.

There are several steps you can take to prepare your body for the upcoming treatment in order to prevent or reduce swelling and bruising afterwards:

  • For one week prior to treatment avoid using aspirin or NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, Aleve, or Motrin. You should also avoid St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E, multivitamins, krill oil, flaxseed oil, omega-3s, gingko, ginseng, garlic, and glucosamine during this period.
  • Buy a fresh pineapple – not frozen or canned – and eat some before your treatment. Pineapple contains bromelain which is thought to reduce bruising. Eat some before you go in for treatment and finish the rest afterwards.

After Your Filler Treatment

  • For two days following the procedure, continue to avoid aspirin and the above-mentioned medications and herbal remedies.
  • You can try Arnica which you can get from a pharmacy or health food store. It should be applied five times a day for the first two days after treatment, beginning about 30 minutes after your treatment.
  • Cool packs can be used during the first eight hours to reduce swelling but you should otherwise avoid touching the area as much as possible.

It is essential to follow all instructions from us following this type of procedure in order to minimize the risk of complication and infection.
