Breast Asymmetry is Totally Normal

No two breasts are exactly the same (not even in a pair), and size and shape can vary as much as any other physical characteristic. Nearly one in four women have one breast that is visibly larger than the other (by at least one cup size) and/or somehow different in shape. Shape differences include nipple placement, projection amount and perkiness.

Even if a woman’s asymmetry isn’t easily visible, some amount still exists. This is because no two breasts are perfectly symmetrical. That’s right — breasts aren’t identical twins!

Breast asymmetry is especially prominent in only about 5-10% of women, but more than half of women with breast asymmetry have a larger left breast. This is because the heart is on the left side, which means the left breast is closer to arteries and veins, and sits on top of the layer of protective fat around the heart.

If your breast asymmetry is bothering you and negatively impacting your self-esteem, talk to us. We can help resolve this issue.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Asymmetry Correction Surgery

Can you fix breast asymmetry?

Breast asymmetry is normal. There are no two breasts that exactly alike. However, significant breast asymmetry can be a concern for some women. Asymmetry related to size or shape can be improved with cosmetic breast surgery. A breast lift and/or breast augmentation (with breast implants or fat transfer) may be suitable, depending on the patient’s asymmetry and aesthetic goals.

How much does it cost to fix asymmetrical breasts?

This depends on the breast procedure that you undergo. It can range from $7000 and u in Toronto, Ontario.

Is breast asymmetry surgery covered by insurance?

Breast asymmetry surgery is typically considered to be an aesthetic procedure, therefore it’s usually not covered by insurance. To confirm, please ask your insurance provider for details.

Why is one implant bigger than the other?

It is not unusual for a woman to have one breast that’s larger than the other. When performing breast augmentation, size asymmetry can be evened out by selecting implants of different sizes. The naturally smaller breast may require a larger implant to match the size of the larger breast.

Can breast implants fix asymmetry?

Yes, it is possible for breast implants to correct asymmetry related to size. However, for moderate to severe sagging, a lift may also be necessary.

Is asymmetric breast tissue a sign of malignancy?

Generally speaking, asymmetry is not a sign of malignancy. It is the norm for a woman to have two differently sized and shaped breasts. However, it’s always recommended for women to undergo routine breast checkups performed by their family doctor to make sure.
