Tips To Determine Your Ideal Measurements

Everybody's body is different, and everybody's ideal measurements vary based on a number of factors. If you are hoping to lose weight and to tone and sculpt your body, your goals should be based on your specific ideal measurements and not anyone else's. Many of us go chasing after bodies that we will never be able to have, which can leave us feeling depressed or discouraged. Once you determine what your ideal measurement are, you'll have a much more concrete and attainable vision to aim for.

For those who want a leaner, more muscular physique, here are some tips on how to calculate your own ideal measurements.

Do Some Research

It can be helpful to study the measurements of those who have a body similar to what you're aiming for. Don't let yourself get discouraged by this! Change doesn't happen overnight, but if you have a clear goal in mind, you will be a lot closer to it than if you don't.

For example, here are some muscle-to-bone ratios if you are after a classic, male bodybuilder physique:

arm size: 252% of wrist size
calf size: 192% of ankle size
chest size: 148% of hip size
waist size: 86% of hip size

These measurements correspond to the bodies of very disciplined, classical bodybuilders. While you may not be able to achieve these exact results (remember, everybody is different!) they can give you a bit of an idea of what to aim for if this is the kind of body you are after. For example, calf size should be nearly double ankle size, while waist size should be about 15% more narrow than hips!

Understand Height to Weight Ratio

Your ideal weight will vary dramatically based on your height. Here are a few examples of a classic height to weight ratio:

5'9”: 180 lbs
5'10”: 190 lbs
5'11”: 195 lbs

Knowing what the ideal weight for your height is will help you get a better understanding of your progress, and it will help you create more realistic expectations for your body.
