A popular treatment for minimizing the appearance of small dynamic wrinkles on the face and forehead, BOTOX® is also one of the simplest and most effective treatments available. It’s suitable for all skin types, and the treatment procedure doesn’t require any actual downtime. The results are long-lasting, and repeat treatments are just as simple to perform as the original, if not simpler. BOTOX® isn’t a permanent solution to the problem of age-related skin wrinkling, but it’s the perfect stop-gap for those who don’t feel they are ready for anything more aggressive.
We nearly always recommend this treatment for our clients who bring us their concerns about smile lines and crow’s feet, especially those wrinkles that appear when the facial or forehead skin is stretched or relaxed. This wrinkling is caused by the contraction of upper-level facial muscles. If you’re experiencing fine lines near the mouth and eyes, or horizontal banding on the forehead when you smile or frown, BOTOX® may be just the treatment you’ve been seeking.
How BOTOX® Works
This formula was originally developed to combat muscle spasms. The active ingredient blocks nerve signals and prohibits muscles from fully contracting. When the fluid is injected directly into the muscle tissue that lies just below the facial skin, the muscles cannot receive these commands from the brain. As such, they relax. The skin remains smoother even when the individual smiles or makes other facial expressions. The right amount of BOTOX® fluid, injected in just the right place, can result in a smoother skin surface.
The All-Important Consultation
We first consult with the client. We need to see just where these wrinkles are forming and which muscles are responsible. The fluid must be injected in the proper dosage and in a specified area of muscle tissue. Once we’ve determined the suitable injection sites, we can move forward with the treatment.
The smoother skin surface is the result of skin that’s no longer being pulled or compressed. This is why the dynamic wrinkles are no longer apparent. This simple treatment could take years off the individual’s appearance. Repeat injections are necessary after multiple months, but less of the fluid is typically required because the muscles are becoming used to being in a relaxed state.
